GOLD COAST (Australia) – The FIBA Oceania 3x3 High Performance Camp tips off this month with 15 National Federations from across the region taking part in inaugural event supported by Olympic Solidarity.

Aligning with FIBA's strategic priorities of Empowering National Federations, Developing Youth Basketball, and Making 3x3 the Most Thrilling Urban Sport, the camp aims to further develop capacity for the future of 3x3 basketball in Oceania.

“With 22 National Federations in our region, we are thrilled to have 15 Federations lined up to participate in the week-long camp on the Gold Coast,” FIBA Executive Director – Oceania, Amanda Jenkins said.  “With the support of Olympic Solidarity, we have been able to elevate offerings at this event which will be all-encompassing from athlete high performance development to referee and coach education, and training.”

Participating National Federations will include American Samoa, Australia, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Guam, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, New Caledonia, Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tahiti, and Vanuatu.

“This camp will inspire athletes and officials from across the region to pursue their passions and continue honing their skills in the game of basketball,” Eskella Joseph from Marshall Islands said.  “This camp will potentially provide a future for our local talents to participate in the global arena.”

Having competed, coordinated, officiated and coached 3x3 events across the Marshall Islands, Eskella will be attending the FIBA Oceania 3x3 High Performance Camp as a coach.  “I have been fortunate to participate in local and regional events through basketball and I have gained valuable experience as a female athlete, on and off the court,” she said.

“I am hopeful that this camp will not only prepare me for the Mini Games in Palau, but also enhance my knowledge and skills to better coach and lead young female athletes, as well as inspire more female coaches in my country.  Aside from this, I aspire to contribute to the sport that holds a special place in my heart by sharing my talents and knowledge with my community.”

Through this camp, FIBA and Olympic Solidarity are committed to supporting the growth of 3x3 in the region and providing opportunities for young athletes, coaches and referees to reach their full potential with the support of NOCs, NFs, and the City of Gold Coast.

The FIBA 3x3 High Performance Camp will take place on the Gold Coast, Australia, from September 24-28, at Somerset College with two days of competition to take place in the heart of Surfers Paradise.
